Category: GBA
Author: metapod23 and fixed by patrickfcarey.
Date: 2026-07-01
Description
An unofficial bug-fix patch of the classic FireRed ROM hack by metapod23 that lets you play through Season 1 of the Pokémon anime as Ash Ketchum. This patch addresses several crashes, softlocks, and save corruption issues from the original beta 4.5.3 release, keeping all original story, maps, and balance intact.
Features
- Play as Ash Ketchum : Experience the journey of the iconic anime protagonist starting right from waking up late in Pallet Town.
- Anime-Accurate Storyline : Follow Ash’s journey through the Indigo League and the Orange Islands, covering events from over a hundred episodes and the first two movies.
- Pikachu as Your Starter : Begin your journey with a Pikachu that follows you on the overworld, refuses its Pokéball, and objects to using a Thunder Stone.
- Anime-Accurate Team and Events : Meet and catch the exact Pokémon Ash caught in the anime, triggering chronological, scripted events.
- No More HMs : Classic HM moves like Cut and Surf are replaced by Key Items to better match the flow of the anime.
- Scripted Anime Battles : Experience scripted events such as Brock's first gym battle being a forced loss, Pikachu refusing to battle Misty, and Charizard disobeying orders.
- Save-Corruption Mitigation (fixed) : The game's story variables overlap PC storage; three hazardous boxes (Box 2, 3, and 6) are now reserved in the storage UI so you can no longer accidentally overwrite your data and get Bad Eggs.
- Breeding-Center Crash Fixed (fixed) : Fixed a crash that occurred when speaking with Jessie & James or Butch & Cassidy with a full party.
- Grampa Canyon Softlock Solved (fixed) : Resolved an issue where a scripted NPC march collided with terrain and softlocked the game during the pickaxe event.
- Underwater-Cave Black-Screen Fixed (fixed) : Resolved an unfilled text buffer and overlapping map-script tables that caused a freeze after Dragonite's message.
- Tangelo Island Crash Fixed (fixed) : Corrected a warp leading to a deleted map, which previously caused a crash when arriving at the Orange Islands.
- Doll-Competition Freeze Fixed (fixed) : Patched a corrupt script pointer that mistakenly ran the braille text renderer on garbage data and froze the game.
- Indigo Plateau Guard Patched (fixed) : Fixed the eligibility check so the guard will properly grant entry once you have all 8 badges and have passed the exam.
- Prof. Oak League Send-off Stall Fixed (fixed) : Addressed a progression stall that occurred on league day if your party was completely full.
- Dragonite Invitation Loop (fixed) : Declining the invitation to Mewtwo's island now properly re-offers the invitation rather than rendering the game permanently unwinnable.
- Pallet Town Ledge Escape (fixed) : Patched a map layout error that allowed players to jump into a one-tile pocket and get trapped early in the game.
- Cerulean Gym Pool Walkway Trap Fixed (fixed) : Corrected a collision trap that could seal players with no way back on the pool walkway.
- Dangling Warps Corrected (fixed) : Fixed 21 reachable dangling warps across the world map that could spawn players at broken coordinates.
- Running Shoes Restored (fixed) : Re-enabled the running flag on 44 maps—including Pallet Town—where it had been accidentally disabled in the map editor.
- Bike Usage Restored (fixed) : Restored bicycle permissions across 16 maps that had lost them.
- Safe Teachy TV Override (fixed) : The broken Teachy TV item now safely declines to open instead of dropping your character into a black void.
- Wild Encounter Level Fix (fixed) : Corrected a level-wrapping typo for wild surfing Staryu.
- Spelling and Dialogue Corrections (fixed) : Fixed several typos throughout the game, including "INIDGO PLATEAU" to "INDIGO", "recieved" to "received", and "sacrfices" to "sacrifices".
