Description
Pokémon Crystal Awakening is a major graphical and gameplay overhaul of the original Pokémon Crystal for the GBC. Inspired by the visual style of The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening, it reimagines the Johto and Kanto regions with completely redesigned sprites, tilesets, and UI. Beyond the aesthetics, it includes significant quality-of-life improvements like running shoes, automated repel reuse, and the ability to obtain all 251 Pokémon in a single save file. The Celebi event is fully restored, and the difficulty has been adjusted to provide a fresh challenge for veterans of the original gold, silver, and crystal games.
Features
- Zelda-Style Visual Overhaul: A complete graphical redesign of the overworld and interiors to match the style of The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX and the Oracle games.
- Expanded Kanto: The Kanto region has been expanded with restored dungeons (such as Seafoam Islands and Viridian Forest), more trainers, and more items.
- Complete Pokédex: Every Pokémon is obtainable on a single save file without trading.
- Gift Starter Pokémon: You can obtain the "leftover" Johto starters in New Bark Town and the Rival's starter in Pallet Town after beating the League/Red.
- Enhanced Difficulty: Trainer rosters have been tweaked, with harder teams for Gym Leaders and key characters.
- Restored Celebi Event: The GS Ball/Celebi event is accessible in Goldenrod City after beating the League.
- New Events & Quests: Includes a tradeback scenario in Silph Co., an item-trading sequence in Cherrygrove, and a special event in Fuchsia City.
- Quality of Life (QoL): Features "Running Shoes" (hold B), an automatic Repel reuse prompt, and more generous HM compatibility.
- Visual Polish: Implemented individual icons and palettes for every Pokémon, colored Poképics, and dynamic overworld sprites (like a wandering Shiny Gyarados in Lake of Rage).
- Gen 1 Cycling Road: Restored the original Gen 1 behavior where you must press buttons to stop sliding downhill.
- Decorations & Doll Maniacs: All room decorations can be bought or gifted. New "Doll Maniac" trainers reward you with dolls upon defeat.
- Restored Items: The Goldenrod rooftop sale is restored, and the Big Onix Doll is purchasable post-game.
- New NPCs: Added a Scientist in Ecruteak with an "evolution database" and various new flavor NPCs throughout the regions.
- Pewter Museum Expansion: A new floor has been added to the Pewter City Museum where you obtain the Silver Wing.
- Unique Battle Transitions: Implemented a unique battle transition specifically for Team Rocket encounters.
