Pokémon Giga Red
Category: GBA
Author: rathpunks
Date: 2026-07-22
Description
Designed to offer a realistic yet challenging experience. Gym leaders, Elite Four members, and evil team bosses feature stronger, more realistic, yet competitive teams without compromising authenticity. Set a few years after the original Kanto story from the perspective of a new trainer, it features Pokémon from Generations 1 to 3 (with Generations 4 to 8 optional via space-time distortions), stat rebalancing, new Fakemon, new hidden evolutions, customized shiny designs, and a dedicated Challenge Stadium post-game.
Features
- Pokémon Generation Availability : All Pokémon Gen 1-3 are available. Pokémon Gen 4-8 are available if you choose to interact with space-time distortions, with an NPC near Viridian offering the option to toggle this depending on your preference for a broader or narrower selection.
- Pokémon Rebalancing : Underrepresented Pokémon like Dewgong have received stat modifications to be more competitive. Additionally, some Pokémon have been given new typings to improve balance, such as Blastoise and Chimecho receiving the Steel type.
- New and Modified Moves : A few new moves have been added, and existing moves like Rage have received adjustments to damage or effects to make them more viable.
- New Fakemon : Custom Pokémon inspired by the anime and other games in the series (such as Crystal Onix or Shadow Pokémon) can be found in new areas or through events.
- Hidden Evolutions and Megas : New hidden evolutions have been added for certain Pokémon, along with select Mega Evolutions, including one hidden Mega.
- Redesigned Pokémon and Shinies : Features custom redesigns for select Pokémon and their shiny forms, such as a white shiny Gengar to match its Mega Form.
- Legendary and Mythical Pokémon : All Legendary and Mythical Pokémon from Gen 1-3 are available, along with almost all of Gen 4 (with remaining Gen 4 legends planned for future updates).
- Updated Storyline : An altered main story set from the perspective of a new trainer a few years after the events of the original Kanto story.
- Devious Boss Mechanics : Evil team bosses like Giovanni feature a new custom mechanic where losing doesn't always result in a simple black-out reset. Challenging Battles : Harder battles and stronger team compositions designed to be tough but fair (not quite a Kaizo hack, but not a walk in the park).
- Level Caps : Features a level cap system (usually capped at 2 levels above the upcoming boss) to prevent over-leveling, alongside badge-based obedience controls.
- Infinite Rare Candy Machine : An in-game machine is available to provide free Rare Candies if you can figure out the trick to unlock them.
- Modern Quality of Life Items : Includes modern items such as EV-IV checkers, Nature Mints, and Ability Pills to make team optimization easier.
- Map Updates : Existing maps have been edited, and completely new maps have been added to the game.
- Post-Game Content : A new post-game adventure is available on the Sevii Islands after defeating the Elite Four.
- Secret Creator Battle : Beating the creator in battle unlocks an entirely new zone.
- New NPCs and Lore : Custom text and sprites for new NPCs, some of whom offer lore hints and secrets on where to locate Mythical Pokémon.
- Modern Battle Mechanics : Includes Mega Evolution, Dynamax, and Z-Moves.
- Vibrant Overworld : Added elements to bring more life to the overworld and make the environment feel more immersive.
- Gatcha Fakemon : A Gatcha machine is available to obtain unique Fakemon with distinct types, moves, and abilities.
- Strong Pokémon Nests : Encounter powerful wild Pokémon in dedicated nest areas.
- Dynamic Weather : Features overworld and in-battle weather conditions.
- Day and Night Cycle : Incorporates a full day/night cycle along with timed events.
- Follower Pokémon : Let your Pokémon follow you in the overworld (note that there are some known bugs associated with this feature).
- Challenge Stadium : A feature inspired by the Black and White 2 World Championships offering level 100 battles, mixed challenges, gauntlets, and a classic Pokémon Stadium throwback, complete with a prize shop and individual practice challengers.
