Description
Spectrobes was a sci-fi monster-battling RPG published by Disney Interactive Studios. Released on the Nintendo DS, the game was praised for successfully combining the monster-collecting genre with its sci-fi tropes, including space travel, planet exploration, and an extraterrestrial foe, while maintaining the JRPG base that supports monster catching. Its primary features included excavating and unearthing fossils of extinct creatures and reawakening them to fight alongside you. These entertaining tropes, combined with unique creature designs, gave Spectrobes its own stage to stand on. The game was considered a commercial success and spawned two sequels, before quietly being dropped by Disney and forgotten about over the years.
Features
- A Full GBA Demake of Spectrobes: This is a faithful recreation of the classic Nintendo DS sci-fi monster-battling RPG, Spectrobes, built within the Pokémon FireRed engine.
- Explore a New Star System: Travel from planet to planet in your spaceship. The demo includes four fully explorable planets: Daichi, Kollin, Genshi, and Nessa.
- Brand New Sci-Fi Story: Play as Planetary Patrol officer Rallen. Team up with your partner Jeena to investigate a mysterious threat, uncover the history of the ancient Spectrobes, and fight to save the Nanairo star system from the planet-devouring Krawl.
- 57 Unique Obtainable Monsters: The demo features 57 fully custom-sprited Spectrobes to find and collect, with plans to include every creature from the original game and its sequel.
- Excavation Minigame: The iconic fossil excavation minigame from the DS original has been implemented to unearth and reawaken Spectrobes.
- Custom Colors: Just like in the original, you can use Chroma minerals to change your Spectrobes into one of four unique color palettes.
- Child Spectrobes & Rare Deposits: Child-form Spectrobes cannot be used in battle. Instead, their unique attributes (like flying) are required to access "Rare Deposits," which contain valuable minerals and secret fossils.
- Secret Spectrobes: The "Rare Deposits" contain fossils of secret Spectrobes from the sequel, Spectrobes: Beyond the Portals, which cannot be found anywhere else.
- Custom Battle System: The battle system has been completely overhauled to feel more like the original Spectrobes game.
- Signature Moves: Every single Spectrobe species has its own set of completely unique "signature moves."
- Physical/Special Split: The modern P/S Split has been implemented for more strategic depth.
- Three Unique Types: The game uses the original Spectrobes' elemental triangle of Corona, Aurora, and Flash types.
- Synergy Combos: This mechanic replaces Pokémon abilities. Certain pairs of Spectrobes, when sent out together in a double battle, will receive a 50% offensive boost.
- Predominantly Double Battles: As the game progresses, double battles will become the most common form of combat.
- Entirely New Soundtrack: The game features a completely new soundtrack with every music track from the original Nintendo DS game faithfully ported over into GBA format.
- Custom Sprites & Menus: The game features a fully custom-sprited roster of monsters, custom items, and unique menus to fit the sci-fi theme.
- Cinematic Cutscenes: The story is told through cutscenes with custom character mugshots and textbox switching.
- Expanded Bag Space: The player's bag has been expanded to hold more items.
