Moving away from standard Pokémon formulas, the game removes Gyms, Badges, standard Trainers, Pokémon Centers, and Marts entirely to deliver a survival-oriented experience. The storyline begins on a normal day when Team Rocket infiltrates the protagonist's town to steal Pokémon, resulting in a grunt using Drowzee to teleport the player to the beach of an unnamed, uninhabited island with the goal of finding a way back home.
